A hat-tip to Burly

| | Comments (0)
Also, a hat-tip to Burly for a blogging renaissance of sorts. I hope to join him in it.

Cory Cavin will be crashing at my house this weekend. If you know who Cory is (or even if you don't), you will likely get a chuckle out of this gem from the past:

31-Day Challenge Peptalk

Hey guys. I know you've all been working hard to keep up with the 31-Day Challenge, and I've been impressed by the outpouring of blog entries that have come out of this thing. I'm actually pretty impressed that so many of you have stuck with it despite tight holiday schedules and occassional bouts of blogger's block.

You've done so well and you only have 2 days to go! Keep working hard to the end of the week. You can make it!

If you are one of the challengers and you have kept up well, I will need your home address. I have info for most of you, but either way, please send your snailmail deets to iamawinner@31for31.com. Prizes will take some time to get out, so look for them in mid-January.

Ryan, Jon, and the Fed

aVt-2976983.pngRyan Wade and Jon Drennan were in town for the holidays, so we made a trip to the Federal for some beverages and some catching up. People change after high school, but somehow, Ryan and Jon seem to always be the same good people they've always been. I met Jon the summer after third grade at rec-league baseball try-outs, and Ryan was in my fourth grade class the following fall. Other than Walker Robinson (third grade classmates), I think they are the oldest friends I've had any interactions with in the last ten years. How many people can say they have friends that old that they still enjoy hanging out with? I don't have any pictures of Ryan or Jon in a digital format, so the Federal logo will have to suffice. Tomorrow, my schedule gets back to normal and you can look forward to more substantial entries. Until then, good night all.

NYC pics

Brooklynne took the digi with her out west, so I dug out my old and trusty film camera. Then I had a debate--should I spring for new film, or should I use the 7-year-old film that I found in a box at the top of my closet? Cheap son of gun that I am, I decided to use up the old film first. Well, I don't know if it was the old film or the process of putting the pictures on DVD that messed them up, but they all came out really grainy. Oh well, they are still fun to share, so have fun enjoying some more of the pictures after the "continue reading" jump.

**Update: after posting the pictures, I realized that all the good shots came from outside places we ate. Weird.

New York, New York

This weekend, I drove to NYC and got to catch up with Will "the thrill" Hart, Brian "Possum" Sellers, and Cory "ridge hippy" Cavin. Brooklynne took the digital with her to UT, so I had to dig up the old, actual-film camera, which I don't think I've used since Brooklynne and I took our trip to Barrow, AK in 2004. I took two rolls of film over the weekend, so if any of the shots come out, I'll scan and post them here tomorrow. But for now, here's a couple of pics from Cory's iphone.

MTS at 10

willssendoff.jpgI was emailing some of the guys this morning and reflecting on my time at UNC when I realized 2009-2010 is the 10th anniversary of the MTS. Look out for a possible special edition MTS t-shirt to be released later this year. Here's a quick blurb from Brian's old MTS Central website:

The MTS is located on the campus of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill on the second floor of Ehringhaus Residence Hall.  Established in 1999 and named for then senior, Miles Travis, the suite has become a home and hangout for many students.  This tradition goes back even before Miles was there to what we now refer to as the Biltozoic Era.

...MTS sponsored activities include the Monday at 7pm balcony yell, MTS flag football (formerly PTappers football), MTS softball, "No Girls Allowed" Bible Study, MTS movie night, and Improv Comedy Live from room 241. As far as we know, we hold the record for most people crammed into a dorm room for an entire basketball game when 27 people enjoyed our last victory over Duke in room 241. Our main activity each year is the sale of MTS t-shirts. Honorary members of the suite show their support each year by purchasing our simple shirts.

Also, here's a partial roster of past residents (including those who pre-dated the MTS name): Alex Kirk, Tripp Saunders, Taurus Carr?, Marshall Benbow, Scott Bilton, Will Hart & Brian Sellers (both 4 years in room 241), Justin Shaddix, Joseph Hoyle, Alex Johnson, Brad Mallard, Chris Nagy, Lamont Council, Greg Snodgrass, Ray Wilford, Marc Jones, Chris Hostetler, Baker Pratt, Travis Hipps, Gian Toro, Jamaal Edwards, Brad Burton, and Miles Travis.

Wood etc.

I went to pick up my new wood supply on Saturday. The load looked good and there were some really nice pieces burried down below, including one enormuos piece that was probably at least 14-16 inches across. I need to get serious about using it. If only I could arrange for a few 30 hour days....

In other news, We ate dinner and watched the first 3/4 of the game with Kristy Kent and Jen Hagin last night. It's always so good to see those guys and it is great to watch the game with other UNC grads whose minds are warped in a similar manner to mine.

Saturday night Brooklynne and I went out on a date to the Rockwood Filling Station. It was good, not too expensive, and the atmosphere was lively.

Sunday morning it was good to be a church for the first time in about a month. In Sunday School we are starting a series on community building, which generated a promising level of discussion. In the service, Alan challenged us to a renewed commitment to studying the sciptures. I plan to take that one to heart. Our small group is also starting a study of the Apostles' Creed. Between these three themes, I think I'll have my head filled most of the time.

Anyway, I'm just ramblng until I get inspired to do some real  blogging.

Halleigh the flirt

Last Friday, Brooklynne and I got to play with the Weinard kids for a few hours. Jack is one of Halleigh's favorite people in the world, so of course she took the opportunity to be funny. These pictures are not posed and there are some more after the break.
