Things That I Love #4: Bluegrass Music

I love bluegrass. There is a fine line between bluegrass and country music, and I loath country, but I love bluegrass. Especially the newer, twangy-but-not-whiney type of bluegrass. Here is an example by The Meat Purveyors.

I'm always looking for a music suggestion. Any favorite bluegrass bands I should know about?

My recommendation isn't exactly bluegrass, but it's not country either. It's more like folk rock, maybe? Anyway...I can't miss an opportunity to plug a band from my hometown that is starting to make it big. The Avett Brothers.

(by the way...I landed here via Jenny Troutman Hite)

Good word. The Avett Brothers are awesome, though their album, A Carolina Jubilee, is much more my speed than their more recent emo-folk albums. and I would certainly place them on the bluegrassy end of the folk spectrum.

I am going out on a limb here & admitting that I like all kinds of bluegrass from the twangy to the folk rock. :)

I third the Avett's and offer up the The Stringdusters, Gillian Welch, and Old Crow Medicine Show (I think you'd really like them Miles) and old Dolly Parton.
