I voted.

In 1996, I voted for Clinton. In 2004, I voted for Bush.

I voted again yeasterday. If you don't know already, and if you're not going to get bent out of shape, you can click the continue reading link to find out who I supported this time and the top ten reasons why.

I voted for Barack Obama because:

  1. I'm tired of the military being our first tool of diplomacy, and I'm tired of using a stick with no carrot.
  2. I'm tired of government protecting the interest of the wealthy and leaving the poor to take care of themselves.
  3. I'm tired of the politics of fear.
  4. I think leadship is not only directing people to accomplish something, but also discerning and desiring what is worth accomplishing.
  5. I believe health care is a moral obligation of our society, not a commodity to be sold.
  6. I'm tired of having an inarticulate president.
  7. I'm tired of Bush's utter contempt for the spirit of the constitution while the GOP looks the other way.
  8. I want my leaders to be thoughtful and speak to me like I'm capable of understanding concepts more complex than soundbites and on-message quips.
  9. I want someone who has not been shaped by 30+ years of doing things the old way.
  10. I don't want to be force-fed an exclusionary idea of what is "American" or "unamerican."

There are more reasons, but none more important than these.

Let me just say ... I'm ANGRY with you Miles. ANGRY.

You ... you ... you didn't tell us who you voted for in 2000 or if you even did. Once you tell me, I'm not angry anymore.

How great would it be if Senator Obama won North Carolina (although I am with you, I'd take the country over our one state but you know, it would be neat if we could contribute)? I've done my absentee duties and feel like I'm useless now that that's over. I'll be watching in the wee hours of the morning here in England.

2000 was the year Cory and I were on our road trip and we had just gotten settled down in Montana. I missed the deadline to get an absentee ballot, so I was not able to vote.

I voted for Obama - duh. And for pretty much the same reasons you did. However, you articulated your reasons way better than I ever could. Mind if I post a link to this in an online nurses' forum that I moderate??

That would be fine, or you can just clip and paste if you would rather.

Well, we know of 4 North Carolinians who voted for Obama.
Although, I heard that the state fair was disheartening because it was saturated with McCain-Palin stickers.

My mom, stepdad, neighbor, and grandfather all voted Obama too. So that's 8 that we know of. Woot! Oh, and thanks for your permission to post this, Miles. :)

BethAnn -

1.) State Fair
2.) Raleigh, home of N.C. State
3.) What did you expect, Nader stickers?

BethAnn said:

I think you meant to address Brooklynne?? Just wondering???

Burly said:

I did ... sorry BethAnn ... both you're names start with a B ... they're soooo similar;o) ...
and I was mainly intended to rip on State.

BethAnn said:

No worries, Burly, just confused me - which is ;)not difficult to do. ;)

I agree with Nos. 1,4,6,7,8,9,and 10.

If I could vote for anyone on my ballot for President, I'd vote for this guy:
