Baseball Hall of Fame Ballot
Recently, Brian posted his votes for the 2008 baseball hall of fame ballot over at his old blog, which can be found via his new blog, The Jersey Snore. I thought I would offer an abrieviated reply to his votes here. I'll only comment where I think there room for thought or where we might have some difference in opinion.
*First a disclaimer though... I am a baseball fan in the sense that I follow the current seasons as they go by, but I'm not a baseball fan-historian like some people are. I didn't know who many of these people were when I started this review. If they played before the mid 1980's, I probably don't know much about them.*
- I can see a case for Harold Baines. But how much weight should we give clutch performance?
- Dave Concepcion may be the victim of the offensive bias in baseball.
- Shawon Dunston - No.
- Mark McGwire - Yes, but not because you have to vote all or none for steroids era standouts. I don't agree with that reasoning at all.
- Dale Murphy - No. I thought about giving Brian's Shawon Dunston vote to Murphy for the late 80's seasons when the Braves couldn't have beaten the ground with a stick and Murphy was the only bright spot. Nice guy, but ultimately too short of a prime.
- Robb Nen - YES. My father-in-law swears I look just like him. Lucky guy.
- Tim Raines - Not sure about that. I don't see where his numbers match Ricky Henderson.
Do any of my readers remember any of these people specifically?

For me: nobody this year! Murphy and Raines - eventually. Dunston and Baines were great but not Hall of Famers.

Only because I'm a Cubs fan do I have any leaning toward Shawon Dunston....but I still don't think he's HoF worthy. No on McGwire, for the same reasons I vote no on Barry Bonds, great though they both are/were.

Evan, I will be laughing about that for a long time to come. HI-larious! When I first checked Miles' blog today for a split second I thought, oh I've never seen that picture of Miles... it took me a second. ha ha ha
What started the Nem/ Miles look-a-like was that my dad (DaddyO/ Paul) was watching a Giants game and Nem was pitching and he said, "Look Blaze (my little brother), there's Miles!" They joke about that everytime they watched him pitch. The best part is, is that I think that the kids really thought is WAS Miles for a little while.
