Teething!
I think we have entered the full blown teething period. Halleigh is 5 1/2 months and drooling like crazy and for the last two days has been "babyzilla." We thought at first her cranky "ness" was from being worn out from our weekend trip to DC, but she was totally pampered yesterday, as I tried to get back into our normal routine, and again today, I made sure I did everything just right, and still she is ultra cranky. This is completely out of character for Halleigh, who is usually sweet, smiley, and fun; only crying when I am not getting what she wants fast enough.
So... why am I telling you all of this? HELP! I need some tried and true methods of relieving teething agony. I have read about freezing wet washcloths, and I have several teething toys (don't worry they are filled with distilled water, not the toxic goo they used to be filled with) that are in the refrigerator, I have a teething toy that vibrates when she chews on it, I have tried rubbing my fingers along her gums and she likes that for about a minute and then is mad again. Any other ideas? I am willing to try anything... if this is just the start, I don't know what I am going to do when it gets really bad.

Baby Orajel. But you have to be really careful & just use a little or they can lose their swallow reflex & choke on all the drool...which will make them cranky & you're back to square one.
We also gave Daniel Tylenol especially at bedtime when he really needed to get to sleep. I'm not sure about dosing so please ask your doc.
This too shall pass...in about 2 years!! We just finished our 2 year molars!!! :P
Frozen Waffles worked great for Elijah. I just watched for them turning to goo and took them away before he could choke. Also Hylands Teething tablets (Walgreens has them) are awesome. They are homeopathic and they worked wonders, especially at night when Elijah would wake up crying.
The Baby Orajel is a great idea. Although the choking sounds scary, I'll be sure to use as little as possible.
I have given Halleigh some baby Tylenol after immunizations, and I didn't even think to give it to her for teething. I'll call my doctor today!
Thanks Beth Ann!
The Orajel or Ambesol (sp?) is a good choice and Tylenol too! Teething rings and washclothes in the freezer is what I always used!
Hey Mrs. Hahne!
Carlie said that you watched the Halleigh show sometimes. Thanks for the comment. I put some washcloths in the freezer this morning. GREAT IDEA! I'll keep you updated on how the teething goes. One of these times that Miles and I are up in DC I need to bring Halleigh over to let you meet her.
Carlie looked great when I saw her! I can't believe she is almost done with her first year of college. Are you excited to have her home for the summer?
About the tylenol . . . you might ask the doctor about baby ibuprofin (motrin??) it lasts 6 hours instead of four-makes a big difference overnight.
I second the Motrin idea too, but only after she is 6 months old...which is not too far away anyway. That's what most pediatricians say.
