Youth Gone Wild, Day One

Charlotte to Indianapolis

I'm still working on smoothing out the video processing, so the text of this first post in the series is lacking, but the videos are good, so hang in there.

I don't remember when we first started talking about going out west, but we had tossed around the idea of working over the summer at Mt. Hood in Oregon at least as early as my sophomore year at Carolina. I think the final decision was made in the Carolina Union Underground, where I was a pin-chaser/pool ball broker. The conversation went something like this...

Cory: I'm really thinking seriously about the roadtrip.

Miles: Let's go.

Since Mt. Hood was glaciated, the original plan was to work at Mt. Hood starting in the summer, but we never secured jobs and our good friend Ray was getting married in August, so we moved our departure date back to the Sunday following Ray's Saturday celebration. The new plan was to make Mt. Bachelor (near Bend, OR) by the beginning of the ski season and spend the winter honing our snowboarding skillz. Little did we know....

Like our typical mode of operation, cory and I put off packing until the last night and we were up into the wee hours of the morning getting our stuff together. Once we were finally packed, the moment called for a spontaneous dance party.

Chris Yontz and Katie Chwastiak came by in the morning to see us off and we headed out, planning to make Indianapolis by dinner time so we could eat with the VanAllen family, some long-time friends of mine. But the road was tough, and it wasn't long before we encountered our first critical decision of our journey....

After clearing that hurdle it was smooth sailing until Indy, where we saw the VanAllens, got a tour of the downtown Riverwalk from our friends Jessica and Melissa, and then crashed at Jessica's apartment.

Next Week: Indy to Chicago.

Because Miles and Cory chose Brittany and NSYNC over economics, what they really were missing later was in fact not rent money, but money to keep the heater on in February in Montana.
You guys look so young, fresh out of college and your whole lives ahead of you. Now one of you is a dad working a poo job at Dook and the other is a New Yorker... ahhh the innocence of childhood. How time flies.
I love you both! And I am so glad that you made the road trip... it changed my life. ha ha ha

That dance party was crazy. Why didn't we get to see Cory in front of the camera?

Did you two eventually try a Krystal burger?
