Daddy's Little Girl!
Its official--child X is really child XX, because it's a girl! Brooklynne's comments were that now she can plan to decorate in purple, and that tomorrow I had to start saving up for a wedding. Let's focus on braces and college first. Really, this news is bitter-sweet for me. I had secretly thought that a daughter would be fun (I thought the same about a son), but I had also had two visions that the child was a boy. So while I'm excited about the prospects of coaching softball and terrorizing teenage boys, I'm also sad about my apparent lack of prophetic skillz. I was warned in the first vision not to tell anyone that it was a boy, and I totally ignored that direction, so maybe this is payback. Anyway, I can't wait to hold our little girl and put her in a Bettis jersey with a pink bow.
You may need windows media player to get this, but in case you're wondering, here's a little video from Burly's Blog that kind of sums up our experiences with the pregnancy so far.
On another note, we've had alot of people ask us about what her name is going to be, and we're not really sure. We've got a couple of middle names picked out (both family names), but we're not sure about the first name. So here's your chance... give us your top three favorite names and your top three worst names, and we'll add them to our list of posibilities. But no promises!

Our top girl name has always been Brynn - We never got a chance to use it though... so you may have it. We've only ever met one person with that name though... and it was a guy... from sweden or something.
I grew up with a girl named Brynn. Not sure how you intended it to be pronounced, but she pronouced it exactly like my name, Brian.
Best girls names (not giving you the one we plan to use if we ever have a girl) ...congratulations, by the way ...
All "e"s all the time ...
1.) Esther (Biblical)
2.) Ella (Modern)
3.) Evelyn (Old-fashioned, Evie (e as in egg) or Evie (e as in eve) for short)
Three worst:
1.) Jezebel (Biblical)
2.) Ralph (Modern - it's just not a good girl's name, really)
3.) Bertha (duh)
Awww, I'm so happy for you guys! I know boys are fun from personal experience but I'm sure we'd be saying the same thing had we had a girl. Kids are awesome. Plus, it's hard to put a pretty dress on a little boy without ruining him (not that I think Miles would allow that anyway). Friendly advice: sleep all you can now, because come October it's not going to happen.
I think the following names are pretty for a girl: Abigail, Elizabeth (not just because of auntie), and Emma. I do not like these: Shaughnessy (one of my patients named her daughter that), Nevaeh (heaven spelled backward, becoming popular), Jessica, or Jennifer.
Congratulations!!!!!
Clarification: I like the name Elizabeth apart from the fact that baby's auntie is named Elizabeth, not in spite of it! Previous statement was unclear as I reread it. :)
I have an appreciation for Mile's comments. I had a similar experience some 25 years ago. I'll have to admit I was dissappointed my first born was not going to play little league football. A friend reminded me that God gives you what you need not necessarily what you want. I received a little girl who never hesitated to give her father constructive criticism - from her very first word, which was "no". But seriously, I shutter to think of what my life would have been like without my very precious first daughter.
So happy for you guys! I can't wait to meet baby Travis! Let's see, my top three girl names... (I'm very irked because I liked these names WAY before they made the top 10 most popular names list)
1. Ava
2. Isabelle
3. Waverly (my personal favorite, but people make fun of it because it's a cracker or something)
Top 3 bad names for a girl:
1. Hester (I just don't like it.)
2. Yellonjello and/or Oranganjello - My great aunt taught kids with these names.
3. Iceshazam - another kid my great aunt or second cousin had in a class.
i was searching for good ideas and looked at the social security website for top names of '05. if you want to be trendy, def pick Emily. I am personally a big fan of the #2 most popular name, Emma. I'm not sure if that's because I actually like the name, or I just love the TV show Friends, but anyway.

I don't have name suggestions, but here's an observation:
A lot of kids at some point change what the parents decided to call them. This change often comes as an indicator of the person thinking that he/she is going to change identity in some way and often comes along with some life stage transition like going into middle school/high school/college/the work force. It doesn't matter if you choose to shorten the name or have the child go by the whole thing; the kid will often choose a change. Thomas will start going by Tom because he thinks it will make him cooler. Becky will change to Rebecca because she thinks it will make her seem more grown up. And on and on... (And then you have my brother-in-law whose given name was Stephen, but became Darryl in high school. Seriously -- his teachers and his friends' parents, etc., only knew him as Darryl. Now he goes by Steve.) So even though I still go by all four syllables that mom chose with a name that has an infinite number of shortening options, you can't count on this consistency. Anticipate the identity/name reconstruction and make sure you don't hate any version of the name you pick.
I can't wait to meet my little niece!
Baylee's Favorites:
1) Bridgett
2) Bridgett
3) Bridgett
Blaze's Favorites:
1) Katie
2) Elizabeth
3) Olivia
We'll love her whatever you call her. We love you a lot!
Below are some comments from my brother-in-law, Stephen (formerly Darryl). These comments are from an email he sent to me regarding the naming of my niece:
That's great about Miles and Brooke's baby. Do they know what they're going to name it yet? I hope they name it: David.
That will provide much hilarity for a variety of reasons, but also a lot of confusion down the road. "Is David going to be there? Yes. Which one? Little David
or Big David? David the Boy or David the Little Girl?"
(Sorry for that tangent, that just struck me as funny, I hope they don't
name her David.)
That will be awesome to have a little niece. The jersey is a fantastic option, I hadn't considered it for a girl, but Kudos to Miles for thinking of that in conjunction with the bow.
Congratulations. I can relate to the desire to have a boy, but I can tell you I cannot imagine loving anything more than I love my little girls!
I like Eliana for a girl--It means my God is my light. You could call her Elly, Ella or Ana for good nicknames.
I cant figure out how to post comments on some of the pictures so ill post it here brooklynne i think virginia is for jerks is a good idea and if you dont make ill make it for you before you move.
