Going to meet Brian McLaren

Generous OrthodoxyBrooklynne and I are going to meet Brian McLaren, author of Generous Orthodoxy, tonight and discuss an article he recently wrote (not published yet that I know of). It will be interesting because I know alot of people who like what he's saying (and some who don't). I tend to agree with him sometimes, but McLaren speaks to a part of my faith where I'm conflicted and skeptical of my own desire to believe what my earthly mind thinks should be right. I'll post a review of the meeting and my thoughts either tonight late or tomorrow.

Could you give us a link to the McLaren article?

Sorry, I see that you said that it wasn't published. How can you discuss an article that isn't available to read? Do you have a 10-cent sketch?

So how was it?

What's this all about? Why did you meet with McLaren and who set this up?

Bill,
the meeting was organized through the Baltimore Emergent Cohort, which meets once a month. I had always thought it would be fun to go to these meetings, but they are on wednesday nights when we lead the middle school group at Gateway, so we had never been able to go. This time, to accommodate McLaren's schedule, they changed the time to Monday night and we went.

The meeting was good, but I need time to write an extended post about it, and school is slowing down the blog, so for every one who is waiting for my thoughts, I'll post them Friday afternoon. My apologies for the delay, but it is unavoidable.

unavoidable is such a strong word

the truth is you have other pressing matters which take priority over your web analysis at this point in your life and therefore you CHOOSE not to complete your synopsis until Friday.

but lying is so much simpler

Is Zach a linguist? Perhaps a communication major who has had a class or two and doesn't yet know the word "semantics"? Maybe a theologian or psychologist with a PhD?

zach said:

perhaps a bored friend just making an observation. strictly for entertainment purposes!

Zach,
in your comment about the word "unavoidable," you assume that I use the pronoun "it" to signify a "delay" that exists outside of, or ignors, my own personal framework of values, priorities, and desires (as the narative voice). Thus you betray your status as not only a bored friend, but also a friend that knows me well.

Everyone,
due to a change of my professor's schedule, I will post my thoughts on the meeting now.

Sorry Zach ... I can spot overanalysis a mile away. I'm pretty good at it, too. And Miles, the way you used the word "it" makes me think you should get some counseling for your prejudices.
