Panda-mania

| | Comments (5)

Giant PandaI never realized it until I got here, but a new panda cub at the national zoo is a BIG deal in DC. Apparently, every summer there is a panda watch to see if there will be a cub, and signs of pregnancy touch off "panda-mania" in the nation's capital. Anyway, the reason I'm posting this is that today is the last chance to contribute to the naming of the new cub. The voting will end tonight, and readers can vote online on a slate of possible names choosen by the zoo and a Chinese wildlife group. Click here to vote for the name of the new panda cub.

Pandamanium exists WHEREVER there's a zoo that has a panda (or as I like to call them - bearcoons).

I am crazy about the panda cub. I check out what he's doing often. The National Zoo site has a little update on his progress almost every day, but that site's panda cam is often too crowded to watch. You can always see him and his mom live at http://animal.discovery.com/cams/pandavidr.html
I voted for Qiang Qiang because I like it when the pandas have the double names. (Like Dave's panda, Sing Sing.)

Iam sitting here at work watching the cub trying to figure out how I am ever going to be able to pry myself away so that I can go home... Or for that matter, ever get any work done.
It is SOOOOO cute. Right now I think that he is trying to sleep, but he keeps streching and wrestling with the bamboo leaves and rolling over. Elizabeth, just for you and Dave I too voted for Qiang Qiang.
P.S. Today is my mom's birthday. Happy Birthday MOM!

Happy Birthday, Brooklynne's mom!!!

Brooke, you also need to go to the National Zoo site and find the photo gallery for the panda cub. Go through the pictures to see how he's grown (and gotten cuter and CUTER), and especially check out the one where the female vet is holding him up for the male vet to examine him. In this picture, you can tell how big he is now, and how WAY CUTE he is!!!

Right now I am watching him and he's trying so hard to stand up, but he swims a little, pulls up, and falls. Adorable.
